Welcome to the English Department!
Aim or vision of department area
We are a team of dedicated professionals who strive to provide our students with the skills they will need to support them through their lives. However this is not our sole aim: we want to introduce our students to the world of language and literature and to share with them our enjoyment of the subject.
We want our students to become avid and active readers something that will underpin their progress in all subjects. We encourage reading through P2I homework tasks and visits to the Library. In conjunction with the Library we also run the Reading Challenge and encourage Year 7 students to take part in the Readathon.
Schemes of work are devised to cover a range of topics and to cater for a variety of learning styles. All students follow the same programme of study, which is then tailored to their ability level. Students will experience individual, paired and group work. They will study novels, plays and poetry. Students will be given opportunities to write creatively. There will also be a strong focus on language skills and knowledge about language. Students will develop their speaking and listening skills particularly through group work.
