Welcome to Music!
Aims and philosophy
It is not necessary to be a 'top musician' to enjoy and succeed in this subject. It is intended that all students should have some knowledge of the many styles of music that can be heard today, partly as a matter of education but more importantly because familiarity with a wide variety of music is in itself a worthwhile objective.
The music department aims to encourage musicians of all musical and cultural backgrounds through a broad and stimulating curriculum designed to appeal to all students whilst giving the more able and keen plenty of scope, both within the classroom and in extra-curricular events and activities, to develop their interest and talent. A wealth of extra-curricular activities exists, such as choirs, bands of various kinds & music technology club (to name but a few). These clubs are constantly reviewed in the light of meeting the needs and interests of the pupils in the school at any one time. The department also has an open-door policy of encouraging students to use the facilities in the lunch break and after school for their own musical practices or to be helped by music staff.
