Key Stage 3
Physical education at KS3 aims to provide an enjoyable, satisfying and balanced programme, with opportunities for all pupils to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. The physical education curriculum offers a comprehensive range of experiences and activity areas designed to meet the needs and interests of individual students whilst encouraging active involvement by all as performers.
The Curriculum
All year 7, 8 and 9 students receive 5 x 1 hour lessons of PE per fortnight. Students are set according to ability from year 7 onwards. When admitted in year 7 the information passed on from their Junior school and baseline testing is used to set them.
At KS3 the students follow the National Curriculum, activities undertaken include the following:
| Gymnastics |
Dance |
Badminton |
Health Related Fitness |
Athletics |
| Hockey |
Football |
Basketball |
Netball |
Rugby |
| Table Tennis |
Rounders |
Cricket |
Tennis |
Softball |
Structured and developmental schemes of work provide for progression, challenge and a sense of achievement. The extensive extra curricular programme supports and extends the work achieved during lessons, allowing pupils the opportunity to represent the school in outside fixtures, inter-tutor matches and ultimately Sports Day.
Assessment
Pupils are regularly assessed against the National Curriculum levels and reported to parents each term.
In addition, pupils are expected to have the ability to apply safety principles and to work both independently and as part of a team.
