At Key Stage 3 the department covers a selection of relevant and popular units which help students develop the skills and knowledge necessary for the GCSE while at the same time examining some key issues relevant to the modern world.
Year 7 Geography Curriculum
There are 4 Geography topics in Year 7. These are:-
1. Map Skills : How can we use maps?
2. Flooding: How do people cope with flooding?
3. Africa : How are our lives connected with Africa?
4. Rivers : Why are rivers important and how do they shape the landscape?
5. A Combined Humanities Project : Portchester Castle
Homework tasks are set throughout the year and vary from individual research to completing classwork. There is one Geography P2I. Students are expected to spend approximately 3 – 4 hourson this.
Targets and Assessment : Each student has an individual target and is assessed in one formal assessment per unit.
Year 8 Geography Curriculum

1. Weather and Climate : Why is the weather different around the world?
2. Settlements : How can settlements be made more sustainable?
3. The Rise of China : How sustainable is China’s development?
4. Rivers : Why are rivers important and how do they shape the landscape?
