Aim/Vision of the Department

Religious Education has a crucially important role in promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students here at Upper Shirley High.
Understanding the beliefs and practices of others promotes mutual understanding, reduces racism, helps students to value diversity and ultimately allows students to consider their own beliefs. As well as learning about religious belief and practice, Religious Education at USH gives students the opportunity to explore and challenge some of life’s ‘big’ questions, for example, ‘What happens when we die?’ Does God exist?’ and so on, in a safe environment where they will not be judged.
Religious Education is more than relevant in today’s world. It links with other subjects such as Citizenship and helps prepare our students to be citizens of a multi-cultural and multi-faith country and world.
