What is a GCSE in Design and Technology: Graphics
Design and technology is about inventing practical solutions to problems through imaginative thinking. Pupils use a range of tools, materials, skills and techniques to explore, design and make products and systems that meet human needs. Working in stimulating contexts pupils learn to use today's technologies so they can participate in developing tomorrow's.
This GCSE will allow you to develop your designing and making skills and increase your knowledge and understanding of Products and their associated materials.
Studying Design and Technology will give you an opportunity to design and make marketable Products using CAD/CAM (computer assisted design and manufacture). You will also gain an awareness of industrial practices.

This course requires you to design and make Marketable Products from a range of materials. The focus in Year 10 is on gaining Skills and Knowledge by undertaking a number of mini projects leading to an examined unit. There is a major emphasis on using CAD/CAM.
During Year 11 you will complete one major project based on a topic of your choice chosen from an open list of suitable products and an exam.
How will I be assessed?
For Design and Technology the assessment is :
60% Course work (year 10 unit + year 11 unit)
40% Examination at the end of Year 11.
You will work through several smaller projects before completing your final project at the start of Year 11.

What will I learn?
You will learn how to design and make quality Graphic Product using mainly CAD/CAM. You will also learn about how Products are manufactured in industry. You will discover new ways of approaching a problem in a unique and creative way. You will learn vital skills in time management, resource management and independent thinking as well has how to perform effectively within a team.
