Admiration from a Supply Teacher!
We were very pleased to receive the following letter from a supply teacher who has recently worked with us in the English department:
Dear Ms Ellins
I worked at Upper Shirley High during November and December 2009. This was my first experience as a supply teacher, a role I have taken on to give myself more freedom and flexibility, after many years of teaching in excellent schools.
Your English department impressed me so much I felt I must write to express my admiration. The department was well organised and the schemes of work were excellent, thoughtfully planned and relevant, appropriately challenging and engaging. All of the members of the department were extremely hard working, deeply committed and very professional. They made me feel very welcome and valued.
Teaching English is very demanding and we are all aware of how vital it is for pupils to attain high levels of literacy while also wanting them to enjoy and be enriched by language and literature. In the 2 months I worked as part of the department I saw nothing from the staff but utter dedication to the pupils and the school. I was very pleased to be part of such a highly skilled team.”
