This expanding and nationally recognised innovative academy serves the Upper Shirley area of Southampton.

MPS - SUBJECT AND THRESHOLD TEACHERS
 
 
The Post
 
Key Elements
 
  • To prepare, develop and deliver appropriate schemes of work, which provide challenging lessons that stimulate students and allow them to succeed.
  • To teach across the full age and ability range.
  • To encourage effective learning through the use of a variety of teaching methods which motivate students of all abilities.
  • To demonstrate the ability to use a range of teaching strategies to maximise student potential.
  • To ensure that students’ work is marked regularly and that they receive constructive feedback.
  • To enable all students to achieve targets set.
  • To keep accurate up-to-date records of student progress in order to inform teaching and target setting.
  • To be able to instil passion about the subject.
  • To set homework in accordance with the homework policy and ensure that appropriate feedback is given.
  • To provide information to parents about the achievements and progress of their child as required through parents’ evenings and reports.
  • To liaise with other staff over issues such as learning support.
  • To contribute to the whole school aims.
  • To be responsible for a positive learning environment, student handbooks and exercise books.
  • To contribute to the wider curriculum through involvement in extra-curricular activities.
  • To participate in appropriate meetings.
  • To take on the role of a tutor within the team and be responsible for the academic and pastoral well-being of a tutor group.
  • To take an active interest in their own personal development and keep professional skills up-to-date.
  • To complete all other reasonable tasks as directed by the Principal or line manager.

Threshold Teachers
 
For teachers to be considered for Threshold Payments they should be able to demonstrate the following:
 
  • They have met the criteria as published in the national programme for Threshold teachers.
  • Demonstrate consistently high standards of teaching and learning as demonstrated through a range of evidence, eg lesson observation, students’ results in national examinations based on value-added and/or residuals, individual student progress better than is nationally expected.
  • Wider professional effectiveness in supporting the aims and ethos of the academy.
  • Undertake to share good practice with other staff.
  • Have completed performance management reviews successfully with targets being met.
  • Staff applying for UPS 2 and 3 should have clear evidence that they have maintained the Threshold standards and the above criteria.
