School Council by Ben Parker

At Upper Shirley High School, the school council is very important, allowing the student body to be engaged and involved with important decisions that affect our future at the school.  We are lucky to have students of every house and year groups in our council so we are representative of our whole school.

During our meetings we sub-divide into four groups to be as productive as possible and to make the most of our individual strengths.  The four groups are Eco Schools – who aim to reduce the school’s carbon footprint and promote sustainability, Healthy Schools – who look for opportunities to raise awareness of healthy choices and have organized International Food days, Charities – who raise money for local, national and international causes, and Representatives – who gather the views of the whole school body and publicise the school council.

We will be organising elections for new council members in September and we hope to achieve great things in the year ahead.
